Vision:

We  will come together as parents to share information about early childhood and to support the plan for Kent County's Early Childhood System.  We will prepare our children for success in school and life.

Mission:

The Parent Coalition will increase parents' skills, knowledge, and participation in early childhood planning and decision making for the county.

Plan:

We will meet at least once monthly to provide parent training sessions, give feedback to the work of the Great Start Collaboratvie, and to collaborate on advocacy work.

Next Parent Coalition Meeting

Parenting for Achievement

As you gear up for the upcoming school year, join us for our next regular Coalition meeting and let us help you make it a great year for you and your kids.   We will learn how to help our children be successful in school and be an active advocate for their education.   

When: August 28, 2008
Where:" United Way Center 118 Commerce Ave. SW Grand Rapids, MI

Free parking will be available.  A light dinner for everyone and childcare will be provided, please RSVP for childcare to the parent liaison phone at 632-1007.  Leave your name, phone number, and number and ages of children who will be attending.   Please RSVP at least 2 days prior to the meeting date.

Fun at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum

Come and join us at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum for an evening of family fun!  Coalition members and their families are invited to a picnic in the park starting between 4:30 and 5:30. The Coalition will offer free admittance to the museum between 5:00 and 8:00 for members and non members who register by July 24.   Simply call 632-1007 and leave your name and the number in your party.

Special Event: Star Power Rally

On May 21, about 20 parents and 25 children boarded a bus to go to Lansing.  We joined a larger group of about 500 people in the state capital to rally for the importance of the youngest citizens of our state.  Parents and children were also able to meet with representatives from the Senate and House of Representatives from their own districts to advocate for our children.
